Word Study List 5
Week of January 11 - January 15
Pattern: In addition to the x, ch, sh, s, ss, and z plural exceptions, there are some other words that do tricky things when you make them plural. When words that end in "consonant+y" become plural, they lose the "y" and add "ies." When words that end in "vowel+y" become plural, they simply add an "s." Some, but not all, words that end in "f" or "fe" switch to "ves" when they become plural. Listen to the sound at the end of the word to tell if the word became "ves." (Chiefs, for example, does not take on the "ves" ending.)
