Cooking Projects With Our Garden Bounty

Now that our harvest season has arrived, we will be using the roots, leaves, stalks, and fruits from our vegetable garden in creative and educational ways. The students will be exploring recipes from different cultures. They will practice reading procedural ("How-To") texts, an important literacy skill. They will learn about seasonality and nutrition in a very hands-on way. They will explore measurement concepts in an authentic context. And they will build their cooperative abilities to work within a productive group.
As the students prepare recipes, we will add the recipes to this section of the website. You may even want to ask your junior chef to prepare one of these dishes at home for your family.

Note: If you would be interested in coming in to our class to help with some of the more intensive recipes, parent volunteers are welcome. Please send me an email. Also, if you have any old kitchen equipment that you could donate to the class, we would appreciate it. Specifically, we could use a hotplate, a pot, a cooking spoon, and a large mixing bowl. All equipment can be returned in a few months.
