New York State Testing Information

Your child will be taking the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics exams over the next few weeks. The ELA exam will be administered on Monday, April 26 and Tuesday, April 27. The Mathematics exam will be administered on Wednesday, May 5, and Thursday, May 6. I will be administering the exam for your child, and I will do everything I possibly can to make sure that the experience is as positive and empowering as possible for your child. You can help at home by making sure your child goes to bed early each night before the exams, and that your child eats a nutritious breakfast before school on the testing days. You can also reassure your child that he/she is extremely well prepared for the test, and therefore does not need to worry at all. I am confident that all of the students in our class are thoroughly prepared to perform at their personal highest level. If your child remains calm and confident, I am sure the tests will seem easy to him/her.
I know that as the first standardized tests your child will take, this is a big milestone in your child’s life. I personally feel that it is important that we make it a positive experience, since their first experiences this year may set the tone for their testing experiences during the rest of their education. Towards that effort, I will not be assigning homework during pre-testing nights, although I will encourage the children to continue with their reading “habit.” I have also planned several fun, artistic and energetic activities for the days of the tests. I want your child to see the tests as an opportunity to show off his or her extraordinary achievement. If you have any concerns, suggestions, or questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by calling me at the school, or emailing.
