Mrs. Zimmerman's Library Basket Labels

These library basket labels were a labor of love for me over the past several years. I made about half of the labels one summer, and I've added labels as I've needed them since. I now have over 100 different labels that I use for my library baskets. I've posted the labels here as PDF files. Feel free to use the labels in your classroom. (I am happy to share, so we each don't have to duplicate the same work!) You'll notice the series titles, authors, levels, and topics tend to be third grade oriented, although I'm sure there is a lot of overlap with a second grade or fourth grade library. I originally got the idea for these pictorial baskets from a fabulous third grade teacher who I read about on the Internet, Beth Newingham. These are my execution of her great idea. In my classroom, I print out these labels on card stock, laminate the labels, and cut them out. Then I simply attach the labels to my book baskets with packing tape. You could tie the labels on or use binder rings, but I find that since I laminate the labels, the tape peels off easily.
Update: As my classroom library has grown, my collection of labels is growing too! It's somewhat unwieldy to figure out what is in the various files, so I've started posting new labels along with the corresponding thumbnails in each file here. I hope this also makes it easier for you to find the labels you need!

I created these labels to spotlight books in my classroom library and to help keep things fresh. My students love "popular" books, newly published (or acquired) books, and "Books of the Month."

Eating "seasonally" is currently in fashion (and a rather sensible fashion it is!) but how about reading seasonally?
With these book baskets in your classroom library, your students may be tempted to try a new book because it feels right on a sunny spring day or while the snow falls. It's also a helpful strategy to keep our libraries current.

Due to the large file sizes, I've posted these labels in several batches. They aren't organized in any sequence, so you'll need to look through the PDF's to find the labels you want.
