Personal Narratives, Round 1
Check out our first published personal narratives for the year. We worked on zooming in on a small moment, and revising our writing to include an interesting opening and as much "voice" as possible.

The Pumpkin Project of 2009
What happens when you mix five pumpkins and twenty curious young mathematicians? You wind up with a messy, fun day of experiments. We first measured our pumpkins for weight, circumference, and number of creases. Using this data, we predicted how many seeds we might find in each pumpkin. Then we cut open our pumpkins, scooped out the seeds, and carefully counted every last seed. To our surprise, the number of creases is the best indication of the number of seeds, not the size or weight! (Pumpkins with more creases are older, and thus have more seeds.) This was a great lesson in measurement, counting large numbers, and estimation.
