The Whitney Museum Partnership - Three Part Program
Our class has been so lucky to get to participate in a three part program with the Whitney Museum. Jackie, one of the wonderful museum educators, visited our class and taught a lesson about perspective. The students created two drawings showing the same urban landscapes from two different perspectives. Then the students visited the museum to view the exhibition Modern Life: Edward Hopper and His Time. The students engaged in thought provoking discussions about the portrayal of time periods in art, as well as about perspective. The students closely analyzed the painting New York Interior (Edward Hopper, 1921, pictured below,) and then drew two other tableaux that they imagined would be framed by adjacent windows.
