Fractions Web Center

Hello 344 Mathematicians! This is your portal to learning about fractions on the Internet. Please visit the websites listed below in order, and complete each activity before you go on to the next activity. If you don't have enough time to complete the activities in class, you can also do them from your computer at home. Enjoy your fractions journey!
1) Five Levels of Fraction Fun - Click on this link, and start at level 1. After you answer all of the questions on a level, you will automatically advance to the next level. Can you complete all five levels?
Tip: When you need to write a fraction on the website, use the slash symbol (/) that is on the question mark key on your keyboard to make the fraction. For example, for one half, you'd type 1/2. (One-Slash-Two)
2) Watch this movie about fractions. Put on a pair of headphones, turn up the volume, and click the play button. You're going to review some information about how fractions tell you about the number of parts of a whole or set.

3) Play Find Grampy. In this awesome game, Grandpa is playing his favorite game, Hide and Seek. You need to find Grampy by naming the fractional part of the number line that he is hiding behind. The game tells you the denominator (that is, the number of parts the number line is divided into.) You need to figure out the numerator (that is where Grampy is hiding.) Good luck!
If you are feeling really bold and want even more of a challenge, after playing Find Grampy for a while, you can try Find Grammy. Grandma is more difficult to find. Or if Grampy is looking a bit ravenous, you could also play Cookies for Grampy, and fun game in which you put together whole cookies from their fractional parts.
4) Play this equivalent fractions game, Melvin's Make a Match, at the Cyberchase website. Your task is to match the fractions displayed on different bottles of potion with the equivalent fractions. The levels get more difficult as you continue to play.
5) Another fun equivalent fractions game, in this one you match the pictorial representation of fractions on different cards. Click here to play Matching Equivalent Fractions. Each time you beat a level, you advance to a higher level.

2) Play Fractions Splat at Coolmath. Click on all of the mixed fractions to complete each level. (http://www.coolmath-games.com/0-fraction-splat/index.html)
3) For a challenge, try this Fractions Addition Match Game. Click on pairs of cards that match an addition expression with the correct sum. You will need to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers. (http://macmillanmh.com/math/2003/student/activity/courses/gr5/ch11/)
4) Estimating Fractions "Chicken Coop" Game - Pick your fractions style and difficulty level. Then place the nest along the number line to catch the fractions eggs. (http://www.echalk.co.uk/tasters/taster2/taster.html)
5) Try building equivalent fractions using the Equivalent Fraction Builder Tool. Drag the slider under each box to partition the boxes into fractions. Then click in the partitions to shade the required sections to make the fractions equivalent to the one on the top. (http://illuminations.nctm.org/ActivityDetail.aspx?ID=80)
